Marqués de Riscal is one of the most renowned wineries in Rioja, with a history dating back to 1858, when it was founded by Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga. Today, the family-run winery cultivates nearly 900 hectares of land, producing a wide range of high-quality wines acclaimed by critics and consumers worldwide. The Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano grapes sourced from old-vineyard parcels in the Elciego area of ​​Rioja Alavesa. Here, the vines, planted before the 1970s, benefit from clay-limestone soils and a microclimate influenced by the proximity of the Sierra Cantabria. After harvest and temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine ages for approximately two years in American oak and another year in the bottle, taking on the elegant and seductive character of the best Rioja wines. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep and brilliant color with dark cherry tones. Its aromatic profile is expressive with fruity notes of blackberry and plum, spicy hints of cinnamon and pepper, followed by touches of licorice and oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, round, soft, and smooth. The tannins are firm and ripe. The finish is long and recalls refreshing balsamic notes. Try it with lamb tagine, Iberian prosciutto, or meatballs in tomato sauce.
