Marqués de Riscal is a family-run winery founded in 1858 and located in the prestigious Rioja wine district of Spain. It is recognized by critics and the public as one of the region's leading producers for its excellent wines, and it’s also a renowned wine tourism destination with its astonishing modern winery designed by architect Frank Gehry. The Verdejo grapes come from vineyards located between La Seca and Rueda, in the areas of Aldeanueva del Codonal, Aldehuela, and Moraleja de Coca. The vines, ungrafted and between 50 and 120 years old, are grown using the traditional bush-trained system on clay soils. After manual harvesting and grape selection, the vinification takes place in 600-liter French oak barrels. The final wine ages for 8 months in French oak barrels (Allier, Nevers, and Vosges). In the glass, the Limousin Reserva reveals a brilliant pale gold color and a broad, elegant bouquet with notes of citrus and dried fruit, hints of dried aromatic herbs, and toasted nuances. On the palate, it is soft with an almost unctuous texture. It is round, fresh, and fruity, with a long finish that recalls light toasted notes. Try it with legume soups, veggie tarts, or fish in white sauce.
