Cellar for up to 15 years. Decanting is optional, up to 30 minutes before serving. The Girard family have spent the last 5 centuries etching their own distinct character into the landscape of Savigny-Les-Beaune. Jean-Jacques Girard is an enterprising seventh-generation grape grower - the first in the family to create his own winery. He was joined by his son Victor in 2008, and together, they create a remarkable range of Burgundy wine. This example was sourced from a Premier Cru vineyard in the village of Savigny-Les-Beaune, bordering the Beaune appellation. The vines of “Les Peuillets” are planted at an average altitude of 250 metres above sea level, producing potent, almost beefy Pinot Noirs, worthy of any collector’s cellar. “Les Peuillets” is equal parts bright and complex, opening with a bouquet of ripe red berries, sweet spices and ground pepper. As with the rest of Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard’s Premier Cru wines, this spent 15 months ageing in oak barrels before bottling. There are hints of oaky complexity on the tongue, but the palate is dominated by a round mouthfeel, concentrated jammy notes of raspberry and cherry, and a distinct minerality. This is a beautifully balanced wine, designed for pairing with exquisite dishes. It will complement roast duck wonderfully or more traditional Burgundy dishes, such as beef bourguignon.
