Located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba in Piedmont, Attilio Ghisolfi has been a family-run winery for four generations. Until the 1980s, production was mixed, and only a small quantity of bottled wine was produced. In the late 1980s, the company started to focus on producing local wines, expanding its estate vineyards, where Nebbiolo and Barbera are the main varieties. The Nebbiolo grapes for this classic Barolo come from vineyards averaging 20 years old, located in the municipalities of Monforte d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto, and La Morra on marly, sometimes sandy soils. After harvest, the grapes are vinified separately by plot to enhance the characteristics of their specific terroirs. The wines then age in large barrels for approximately 30 months before blending and bottling. In the glass, the wine reveals a bright ruby ​​color. Its aromatic profile is broad and intense, with notes of raspberry, wild red berries, and plum, interspersed with floral hints of hibiscus and violet. On the palate, it is rich and complex, powerful and elegant, with firm yet ripe tannins and a moderate, well-integrated acidity. The finish is long and recalls tertiary notes of leather. Try it with beef Stroganoff or roast venison.
